The Global Health Laboratory is part of the advanced research group at the Industrial Imagination & Intelligence company. Its primary goal is the development of accessible technologies to aid in the deployment of high-quality high-impact healthcare in resource limited settings.

(accessible = within reach of those who make up 71% of Earth’s population who earn less than US$10 a day)

Developments born here have included:

In the United States, Electronic Medical Records systems are sold primarily as billing and accounting systems.  Clinical documentation is largely relegated to ensuring that hospitals and clinics are reimbursed by insurance companies at the highest level.

Our electronic medical record system is designed primarily for patient care and scientific analysis.  It is designed for use in resource limited settings where local medical staff have historically used paper for patient documentation.

Our software is currently in use in several healthcare facilities across 6 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.  We are grateful to our launch customers: Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital along with the Ministries of Health in our initial target countries.

Avatar Medical Telepresence System

Many of the countries we work in have a limited number of medical doctors and limited internet connectivity for its population.  Our Medical Telepresence System enables doctors anywhere in the world to virtually examine patients in a life-like interaction.  The terminal is intentionally designed to provide a visual aspect ratio similar to the doctor’s physical presence.  The interaction is more comfortable for the patients and, thus, more conducive to doctor-patient interaction.

The Global Health Laboratory at II&I offers open-sourced plans for building the terminal using parts that can be sourced locally within our client countries.  Healthcare Organizations may use third-party video conferencing software with the system at no cost, or they may choose our proprietary Avatar Telepresence Software for an easy-to-use HIPAA-compliant seamless system.

Global Health Community - Virtual Office

The Covid-19 pandemic affected workers around the world.  Office facilities became places where the virus could be transmitted amongst staff and taken home to their families.  Although internet connectivity in our client countries may not be as robust as connectivity in the United States, staff at our client facilities were nonetheless required to perform their work remotely when possible.

The Global Health Laboratory was able to rapidly build out a system that allowed workers to remotely collaborate on documents and projects as they might have done in-person.  The capabilities of the system are continuing to be enhanced, and will afterwards be available to other client organizations who have similar needs.
